This East African species, is associated with the Somali-Masai Arid Zone. It is found from northeastern Tanzania through Kenya and Ethiopia (east of the Rift, and especially in the Ogaden) and then northwards into Djibouti, Eritrea and marginally into Sudan. There is an isolated record from central Sudan on the White Nile (Fritz Dieterlen pers. comm.). The precise distribution in Somalia is uncertain. It has been recorded to more than 2,000 m asl.
