Bugs*
All kinds of bugs can be part of a balanced diet. When choosing bugs to eat, you should make
sure that the bugs have not been exposed to pesticides or unsanitary conditions. Although
some cultures eat insects raw, all bugs should be cooked before eaten. Some insects may
contain toxins. Usually these bugs are brightly colored. If you have a question about the
edibility of a certain bug, observe whether or not wild animals eat the insect.
Some common bugs for eating include: termites, ants, crickets, grasshoppers, grubs, caterpillars, cicadas, maggots, dragonflies, beetle larvae, beetles, scorpions (cut off the stinger), spiders, earthworms, water bugs, and cockroaches, and bees (boil to neutralize the stinger).
