: I arrived at the end of the MRT line with the intention of going to visit Wulai. Once I arrived, however, I was defeated by both the heat and some signs of jet lag. I looked outside to see a mountain and some trails right there, so I decided to walk around instead.
As I walked up the hill in the intense heat and humidity, I was surprised to see a few other people walking around.
While walking up the stairs, I made the mistake of putting my hand on a rail next to the stairway. There was some spiky green caterpillar on the rail, and I barely grazed it with my hand at which point it felt like my entire arm fell into a thicket of stinging nettles and thorns.
With my newly gained experience, I successfully avoided touching the spiky orange caterpillar a few minutes later.
I did make it to the top of the hill. Based on the signs, I was expecting some kind of restaurants or at least something to drink, but everything was closed. I was very thirsty and hot, and I had to chug a huge bottle of plastic water upon arriving back in civilization. I was hoping to avoid plastic water on this trip, but here I was failing on day one.
I then spent the next hour or so sitting near the opening of the MRT to soak in the cool breezes coming from the depths of Taipei.
