Map of Jake's Landing, New Jersey
One spot worth checking out on the Cape May Bird Observatory's list was Jake's Landing. Jake's landing is a boat launch near North Dennis, New Jersey. There is a dirt road in good condition that takes you out to a parking lot in the middle of a very wide open brackish marshy area.
I only spent about one hour in the area, but I was able to get some close up shots of Laughing Gull, Marsh Wren, Seaside Sparrow, Eastern Kingbird, and Herring Gull. I got some further off views of several duck species, a Glossy Ibis, and several Ospreys. Of the several places I visited in Southern New Jersey, this would have to rate the top for photography. The terrain allowed for good backgrounds in addition to the ease of access. The birds here seemed braver than in other locations in New Jersey. Watch out for the ticks in June when walking around in the marsh.
