Trips

Uganda and stops between

1/1/2017: We drove over to Mabamba Swamp in order to look for the Shoebill. We boated around in the swamp for three hours with no Shoebill, at which point the local guide pulled a pricing scam claiming the initially quoted price was "per person" when, in fact, it was supposed to be the price for the whole boat. I was a bit concerned at this point that we were in for two weeks of scams, but this turned out to be the only place that was dishonest.

1/13/2017: After travelling all day and missing the Shoebill everywhere we looked, we took one last chance at Mabamba Swamp. Since we were scammed on our first trip to the swamp, we were able to negotiate a discount for the second try. And lucky stars, the Shoebill was spotted during the last minutes before sunset.
