Tympanuchus phasianellus has a wide distribution in central, northern and northwestern North America, occurring in the
U.S.A. and
Canada (del Hoyo
et al. 1994). The subspecies
hueyi of New Mexico was last recorded in 1952, and is now extinct (Merrill 1967).
