The black-headed tanager is a species of bird in the family Thraupidae.
It is found in the Andes of northeastern Colombia and the Venezuelan Coastal Range.
Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland, and heavily degraded former forest. The black-hooded tanager was formerly considered to be conspecific with this species.
