2/24/2016: Enjoy some photos of "Sensitive Species"

All of birds here are in danger of extinction due in a big part to the cage bird trade. Wild birds are captured to be sold in pet markets.

I would normally share a better location for photos, but poachers can use that information to target especially interesting birds for these markets.

7/19/2024: On my second trip to Indonesia, it seems even more grim for the survival of wild birds in that country. In Java and Bali, for instance, it seems like there are more wild birds in cages than in the wild. I was in some places where there were virtually no wild birds.

One of the bird guides that I hired thinks that there will be nothing left in 10 years. He said, for instance, that in Cibodas Botanical Garden, there used to be thousands of birds. There are very few birds in that garden today. I can see more birds in my very urban neighborhood in San Francisco than I saw in otherwise great habitat.
