Trips
Dominican Republic
1/26/2014
: We spent our last three nights at a cool hotel with waterfalls running through the middle of everything. The hotel was right on the border of the national park.
Some of our highlights for the stay were taking a boat trip into the mangroves to see prehistoric cave paintings, walking around in the swamps around the hotel, and being attacked by the resident geese and horses.
On our last night, a couple of guys showed up with playback equipment. I tagged along on their search for the Ashy-Faced Owl. I am not sure that I am on board with using playback to see birds, however. The birds seemed very annoyed by the disruption in their daily pattern.
In addition to the birds listed, I heard a Hispaniolan Oriole and a Chuck Will's Widow.
